**What is #kaizen?
π #Kaizen is a continuous improvement methodology that’s been around for over half a century. It involves making small, incremental improvements to a process or system over time. By doing so, it aims to create a culture of continuous improvement within an organisation and encourages all team members to identify and address problems, no matter how small.
π¨βπ¬π©βπ¬ #Kaizen has been used by many organisations, including #Toyota in its manufacturing processes, to improve their processes and systems.
**How to use #Kaizen?
π¦ An example of how #Kaizen could be used to improve new business processes within a high street bank is as follows:
π Identify the problem: The bank has identified that the process for opening a new account is slow and cumbersome.
π€ Form a #Kaizen team: The bank forms a team consisting of employees from different departments involved in the new account opening process.
πΊοΈ Map the process: The team maps out the current process, identifying all the steps involved and any bottlenecks or delays. MS Visio is great for this! #visio
π― Identify areas for improvement: The team identifies areas of the process that could be improved, such as reducing the amount of paperwork required and streamlining the verification process.
π Implement improvements: The team implements small, incremental improvements to the process, such as using electronic signatures instead of paper signatures and improving the verification process.
π Monitor progress: The team monitors the progress of the new process and gathers feedback from customers and employees.
π§ Make further improvements: Based on feedback, the team makes further improvements to the process, such as simplifying the language used in the documentation and reducing the number of steps involved.
π Standardise the process: Once the new process has been refined and improved, the team standardizes it to ensure consistency and prevent backsliding.
π₯ By using #Kaizen, the bank was able to improve its new business process in a cost-effective and efficient way. By empowering employees at all levels to identify and address problems, the bank was able to create a culture of continuous improvement. #Kaizen is not a one-time event but rather a continuous process of improvement. By making small, incremental improvements over time, the bank could improve its processes and systems in a way that is sustainable and scalable.
Have you used #kaizen within your company? If so, please share your experiences so that we may all learn and develop.
