Today, I wanted to talk about mental health awareness as a team leader or people manager.
❗️First and foremost, it’s essential to be aware of the signs of poor mental health. These may include changes in behaviour, mood swings, frequent absences, or a decrease in productivity. It’s important to approach these changes with empathy and compassion, as they could be a sign that someone on your team is struggling with their mental health.
🤝 As a manager, you have the power to create a supportive environment for your team. Here are a few things you can do to support people who may be suffering from poor mental health:
1️⃣ Encourage open communication: Encourage your team members to speak openly about how they’re feeling. Ensure that they feel heard and supported when they do so.
2️⃣ Provide mental health resources: Provide your team with mental health resources and make sure they know how to access them.
3️⃣ Lead by example: Take care of your own mental health and encourage your team to do the same.
4️⃣ Be flexible: Be flexible with schedules and workloads where possible. This can help ease the pressure that may be contributing to poor mental health.
👉 Remember, your team’s mental health is just as important as their physical health. By creating a supportive and empathetic workplace, you can make a significant impact on their overall well-being.
💚 Let’s continue the conversation about mental health in the workplace and work together to create a positive and supportive environment for all.
